Community Bonds

Two years ago, we had the outlandish idea that we could raise $2 Million toward the purchase and renovation of a 36,000 ft2 building, jam pack that space with world-changing people and projects, all while providing our investors with a triple-bottom-line return – in the span of a whirlwind 8 months. Well, we did it! And now we want to help others do the same.

Join Tonya Surman, Executive Director of the Centre for Social Innovation, on this half-day investigation of what we did, how we did it, and how you can too. Gain insight into your organization’s financing challenges, determine whether community bonds are the right fit for you, learn how to launch your own community bond offering, and, of course, how to turn your supporters into investors. All attendees will receive a copy of the Do-It-Yourself Guide to Community Bonds.

Network Builders: Designing the Right Structures and Processes to Make it Work

Presenter: Linda Mollenhauer, Mollenhauer Consulting.

Target audiences:

1.Nonprofit organizations who are: a)currently in a network or collaboration and are wanting to ensure they have taken the appropriate steps to build their structure and processes; and, b) exploring or just establishing a network or collaboration and want to take the right steps forward.

2. Funders, intermediaries and capacity builders: funders, including foundations, corporations, governments, United Ways, intermediaries and capacity builders, who are supporting networks/collaborations and want to learn about the key decisions points which non-profit organizations face.

Description:

With today’s complexity of issues and the pressure to work smarter, not harder, non-profit organizations are increasingly building networks or collaborations as a way to weave together and create capacities that get better leverage and results. But the key challenge for many network and collaboration builders is to ensure they are designing a network that will work effectively. Typical organizational structures and processes don’t work the same way for networks.

This webinar will help non-profit Board, management or staff members or funders and capacity builders to understand the critical choices and decisions required to put the right structure and processes in place. It will be of interested to those who are just establishing a network or collaboration and want to understand the building blocks or those who already have an established one, but want to ensure it’s built on solid foundations. You will learn about the important steps of finding unifying purpose, identifying members, choosing the organizational and governance structure and getting the work done. As well, you’ll have the opportunity to share your own experiences and hear from others. Spaces will be limited.

Enabling Nonprofits Ontario: Accessible Customer Service Webinar Series

Part 1 – The AODA: Unpacking the Issues
Recorded September 12, 2011 | Watch the webcast here for free

Description

The Ontario government has announced the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) with the goal of making Ontario more accessible to people with disabilities. Did you know that approximately 1.85 million people in Ontario live with disabilities, which is roughly 15.5% of the population? As our population ages, that number will only increase. While many perceive disabilities to be permanent, that is not always the case. In fact, almost everyone will suffer from a disability at some point in his or her life, due to aging, arthritis, loss of vision or hearing, or due to common accidents such as broken legs or arms.

The ONN views the AODA as essential, a timely piece of legislation with far-reaching consequences. The Act effectively removes and prevents barriers for people with disabilities in every aspect of their lives. The Ontario government’s goal is for an accessible Ontario by 2025, with the public sector having to comply since January 1, 2010, and the private sector (with one or more employees) having to comply by January 1, 2012.

Join Constance Exley of the Ontario Nonprofit Network, as she guides you through the AODA requirements, giving suggestions on how your organization can incorporate the standards. While Constance will touch on policy-making, feedback and training models for your organizations, these latter topics will also be the focus of later webinars on Policy and Training. Constance will also give one webinar dedicated entirely to answering common and specific questions related to the Act and its implementation.
